The banquet space holds 50 for receptions or seats 30. Before an event guests can congregate in the semiprivate library bar for oversize versions of classic cocktails the library itself can be blocked off with cocktail stations for additional privacy. Decorated with plush Chesterfield sofas leopardprint rugs and a working fireplace Townhouse has a projector a large-screen TV a DVD player and a dedicated sound system. Within walking distance of South Station Blue Inc. opened in 2011 and is helmed by blue-haired chef Jason Santos of Hell s Kitchen. Quirky dishes like mini Kobe corn dogs with onion batter complement a drinks menu of Crazy Cocktails with tipples like a margarita with candied grilled jalape os beef stock and smoked chili sea salt. Julep Bar debuted in the Financial District in December. The two-story lounge specializes in houseinfused cocktails and inventive small plates. Designed by HGTV personality Tania Nayak the space exudes a bohemian vibe with highbacked green couches ivory ottomans and soft lighting. The regional American bar and restaurant JM Curley debuted earlier this year. The space is available for buyout with a front dining room which accommodates 90 and a lounge with couches toward the back which holds 22. A 70-inch television hangs above the 14-seat bar and an air hockey table is available for games. The space seats 67 and holds 75 for receptions. An alcove can seat 12 or hold 25 standing. Another alcove offers seating for six and views of the bar area. An extensive cheese collection complements a list of specialty martinis and classic cocktails. (10 Avery St. 617.574.7100 ritzcarlton.com) The owners of 5 Eastern Standard and Island Creek Oyster Bar opened the Hawthorne in November. The cocktail lounge channels a sleek urban residence and can host events for 30. Smaller semiprivate areas can host gatherings for groups of two five and 15. For the beverage list mixologist and proprietor Jackson Cannon created specials such as the Belle de Jour made with pink cognac benedictine pomegranate and champagne. The second floor is lined with booths and the third level which is outfitted with two bars and a JBL Series 5 sound system has a dance-hall feel. Leather banquettes and turn-of-the-century-style chandeliers set off the wood-paneled room. A horseshoe-shaped bar attended by mustachioed bartenders in suspenders and waitresses in burlesque outfits anchors the venue. The space is available for buyouts and holds 125 for seated events or 155 for cocktail receptions. Additionally a semiprivate mirrored dining room next to the bar holds 35 for seated or 50 for receptions. Known for unusually flavored cupcakes the bakery serves seasonal treats with ingredients such as edible gold leaf Madagascar vanilla and homemade preserves. The bakery also customizes cakes and cupcakes with company logos and other images. A flat-screen TV can play DVDs. The eclectic Italian restaurant A Tavola which opened in November specializes in piattini (or small plates) and has already garnered a reputation for its innovative fare. Located in downtown Winchester the restaurant is available for buyouts. It seats 50 or holds 65 for cocktails in the main dining room which is outfitted with long tables and wagon wheels hanging from rustic wood walls. Screens and projectors are available for a rental fee and can be coordinated with restaurant staff. Available for daytime buyouts and in the evening with restrictions the venue seats 225 or holds 275 for receptions. A private dining room complete with a 40-inch flat-screen for video plus a sound system and microphones seats 40 or holds 50 standing. The Salty Pig a casual charcuterie and cheese bar opened in 2011 across from the Back Bay T stop. A bar made of reclaimed wood seats 14 in chairs produced from salvaged materials including one fashioned from recycled Coca-Cola bottles. The menu spotlights a range of mix-and-match cured meats and cheeses plus flatbread pizzas. The bar program concentrates on local draft and bottled beers incorporating New England brews. Buyouts are available for 65 inside and 50 in the courtyard. (130 Dartmouth St. 617.536.6200 thesaltypig.com) Kendall Square s 4 Area Four a bakery coffeehouse and restaurant opened in 2011. A private dining room separated from the main space by a reclaimed barn door seats 20 seated or holds 40 for cocktails. The main dining room can accommodate semiprivate groups of 20 at a communal table. Seasonal menu items include local swordfish pate and bacon and sea salt pretzel nuggets. Beer is offered in keg format. Menus are fully customizable for private events. The 1 500-square-foot space has a 25-seat bar a 65-seat dining room and an alcove for semiprivate dining that seats eight guests. The entire venue is available for private seated dinners of as many as 94 people. The sleek 49 Social which opened in 2011 in Downtown Crossing offers rustic American fare in a multilevel space. A mezzanine seats 50. The venue also includes a six-seat chef s table which looks out over the bar and dining area on the first floor. Downstairs a granite-walled lounge with recessed lighting and hanging candles seats 50. (49 Temple Place 617.338.9600 49social.com) For High-Flying Activities Sky Zone which specializes in corporate teambuilding retreats with an active twist is the Boston area s first trampoline park. Located about five miles north of the city the space offers 14 000 square feet of trampoline courts foam pits and dodgeball for adults. The 27 000-square-foot facility is available for full buyouts partial buyouts are also available. In addition to the activity areas it has two connecting function rooms that each seat 30 the entire venue has a capacity of 150. The refreshed lobby which now has Wi-Fi and several electrical outlets adjoins the new Waterline restaurant and bar. Beyond upgrading the preexisting meeting spaces--including the 8 200-square-foot grand ballroom the 5 700-squarefoot Palm Garden ballroom and the 2 530-square-foot Commonwealth ballroom--the renovation added the Harbor View ballroom. With floor-toceiling windows and a seasonal patio this new section holds 200 for receptions and the terrace has room for events with as many as 140 people. The hotel s banquet space touted as Cape 1 1 Cod s largest is capable of hosting gatherings of 250. The waterfront space offers a projector and screens property-wide Wi-Fi rental assistance and parking. Specially designed fullservice catering menus are available. With 225 seats Theatre1 hosts film screenings premieres festivals and other movie-related functions. The adjacent Space 57 offers 7 000 square feet of blank-canvas event space and holds 1 000 guests. The site hosts musical performances galas fashion shows and sit-down dinners for as many as 400 guests. The Doulos Room seats 80 or holds 100 for cocktails and can be divided with a retractable wall to accommodate dinners for 30 40 or 50 guests. The room offers a projector and a 120-inch screen as well as 42-inch and 52-inch plasma TVs. The Harbor Room seats 20 or holds 40 for receptions and has a 60-inch plasma TV. The globally inspired menu highlights specialties from the chef s African and European travels while incorporating local ingredients. The restaurant also offers Wi-Fi. Additionally a patio with manicured topiaries can be reserved for events. The space is fully equipped for laptops and DVDs and has five televisions including one with a 60-inch screen that can be obscured by a mirror. The glass-enclosed heated roof offers dramatic views of the Boston skyline and harbor and a copper fireplace provides extra warmth. The space holds 125 for private events the rooftop can also be cordoned off for semiprivate groups of 50. The seafood-centric menu includes sushi boats and a a raw bar along with hot items. Three 60-inch TVs can be used for slideshows and logo placement. The Crick Franklin and Watson rooms along with the foyer each accommodate 100 guests seated at round tables. Each room offers opaque glass sliding walls which are soundproof plus flat-screen TVs obscured by wooden panels. The dining rooms have floorto-ceiling windows allowing for natural light. Available for buyout the 1 bilevel restaurant and cocktail lounge Forum opened in 2011 and seats 120 or holds 300 for receptions. Additionally a cafe space that opens onto a patio on the first level can be roped off for 60-person receptions. A first-floor lounge with a communal table and highdefinition televisions holds 50. Origami-inspired metal walls decorate the second floor and large vertical windows offer natural light and views of the city. The space has a minimalist design and large windows overlooking Newbury Street allowing for natural light. A loft space is available for buyout and seats 35 or holds 75 standing guests for catered events. In addition to the loft a private conference room holds 10 a smaller private room has seven seats. The venue is 4 000 square feet with seven treatment rooms and a fully equipped salon and technicians can conduct seven services at a time.
