Before this she worked for a community centre based in west Toronto that provides meals for marginalized individuals. Alexandra holds a Masters Degree in Social Work which she obtained from Wilfrid Laurier University and is designated as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist through the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. She has spent time working and traveling abroad including an internship in India where she helped to coordinate a small business start-up to help women living in rural villages become more selfsustainable. Alexandra is a member of the farmer co-op Elmgrove Organic Collective as well as a member of the cycling advocacy group- Cycle Toronto. For the past 22 years she has delivered news at CHCH Television in Hamilton and teaches broadcast journalism at Mohawk College. She has hosted such events as Dundas Hockeyville the Catholic Youth Organization s Sports Banquet and Make it Seven an effort to bring an NHL franchise to Hamilton. In addition to this position she serves her community as an Advocacy and Development Coordinator at the YWCA and as a political pundit on Cable 14 on the weekly TV show the Opinonators. Alex also works with the Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reductions and Elect More Women. She previously worked as a grievance officer for CUPE 3906. She is an elementary school teacher and a past president of the Simcoe County Elementary Teachers Federation. In 2001 Ann was the recipient of the Elementary Teacher s Federation of Ontario President s Award. For 7 years she served as the president of the Barrie Skating Club. Ann was awarded the Queen s Jubilee Award in 2003. She lives and works in Barrie has two daughters and two grandchildren. She her husband and only child have lived in Beaches East York for the past 5 years. Debra grew up in Yellowknife and worked her way through university at UBC. She worked many jobs including mail room clerk tour guide at the Legislative Assembly in Yellowknife server and legal secretary. After completing her degree she then lived and worked as a high school teacher in Japan France and the UK. Website http www.gpo.ca riding 5 candidate 7 Page Female Candidates Ontario Provincial Election 12 June 2014 Bramalea-Gore-Malton Green Pauline Thornham Pauline has lived in the Bramalea-Gore-Malton riding since 1980 and has taught elementary school for the Peel District School Board in a variety of teaching positions including French and ESL. Retired in 2008 she continues as a supply teacher. During her career in Peel Pauline was the school representative for the teachers union and also spent time volunteering on the political action committee. Since 2001 Pauline has been on the executive of her lake association in northern Ontario and is currently president. She obtained a Certificate in Environmental Conservation from the University of Guelph in January of 2011. Pauline joined the Green Party of Ontario and Sierra Club Peel in 2010. She is now a member of the executives of both organizations. She has also joined the GPO shadow cabinet as the Citizenship and Immigration Critic. She is part of several organizations and initiatives including La Leche League Canada the executive of Professional Organizers in Canada the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) and the Brant Association for Breastfeeding Information Education and Support (BABIES). Alex also works with the Canadian Cancer Society s Relay for Life as a volunteer organizer. She is a first aid instructor for St. John Ambulance a member of the Bruce Peninsula Environment Group and the Ontario Environment Network a youth soccer coach and a union representative at her workplace. Karen moved to the BruceGrey-Owen Sound area in 1999 and lives in Hepworth with her spouse and two children. She obtained a degree in Political Science from York University and has spent many years working for the Canadian comedy institution The Second City. Recently Jenny has been working with kids in Lookup Theatre s Circus Arts Camps in Hanover Owen Sound and Saugeen First Nation. Some of the organizations Jenny has volunteered with include South Grey Bruce Youth Literacy Council Durham Art Gallery and Words Aloud Spoken Word Festival. In that time she has been involved with many projects for organizations including Rotary Central the Carpenter Hospice and The Heart and Stroke Foundation. A self-educated entrepreneur Jane has launched her own company Rainmaker Consulting. Jane and her husband Tim have raised five children in Burlington. She was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in 2011. She has served as a member on the Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills and Social Policy. During her time at Queen s Park Jane has been the PC Critic for Economic Development Trade & Employment Government Services and Children and Youth Services. Website http burlington.ontariopc.com 11 P a g e Female Candidates Ontario Provincial Election 12 June 2014 Liberal Eleanor McMahon Eleanor McMahon spent the early part of her career on Parliament Hill in a number of roles including Press Secretary in the office of the Prime Minister Jean Chr tien. She has served as Director of Public Affairs at the Canadian Advisory Council on the Status of Women as well as Vice President at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. She then spent time as Director of Public Affairs at Petro-Canada Vice President at United Way Ottawa and Executive Director of Public Affairs at the Ontario Medical Association. In 2008 she launched the Share the Road Cycling Coalition a provincial cycling policy and advocacy organization. She has worked full-time as its CEO since 2010. The Share the Road Cycling Coalition was created to unite cycling organizations from across Ontario and work with municipalities to make their communities more bicycle-friendly. In 2008 Eleanor began lobbying for enhanced penalties for suspended drivers in Ontario. As a result of her advocacy Greg s Law was passed on April 22nd 2009 and became law in September 2010. She has received the OPP Regional Commander s Award the Halton Regional Police Service Certificate of Appreciation and the Lyn Benson Memorial Award in recognition of her service. She moved to Kanata to begin a career as a reporter. She was the editor for six local newspapers during which time she also opened a communications firm. Rosalyn has an undergraduate degree in Political Science at Carleton University. She was the second-ever recipient of the Ottawa Community Housing Media With A Heart Award. She now lives in Willowdale but her husband s law firm remains in the riding. She attended St. Rita Catholic School later earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Ryerson University. She has experience in the pharmaceutical industry spanning more than fifteen years which included several years working abroad before returning to Toronto to raise a family. Cristina is the president of the Federation of Portuguese Canadian Business & Professionals the deputy chair of the Greater Toronto Business Association and a director with the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Toronto. She served as PC Critic for the Ministry of Community and Social Services and in 2009 became PC Critic for the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. After her 2011 re-election Sylvia was appointed to serve as Deputy House Leader and Critic for Government Services. In May 2012 she was appointed as PC Critic for the Ministry of the Attorney General and PC Caucus Chair and most recently served exclusively as PC Caucus Chair. Karren s electoral training qualifies her as a volunteer for the International Election Observation Project eligible to be deployed as an election observer around the world. In 2011 she was a GPO organizer and is currently assisting the party to organize in the run-up to the elections on June 12th. She holds a bachelor degree in international relations and political science from the University of Toronto and a Master s degree in migration studies from the University of Kent Brussels School of International Studies and is a candidate for a Certificate in Sustainability Management from the Chang School at Ryerson University. Halyna has worked studied volunteered in Ukraine South Korea Belgium Switzerland Nepal and South Africa among others in the humanitarian migration and environmental sector. She grew up in Port Stanley and has lived in St. Thomas for the past 24 years. Kathy is currently employed by SEIU (Service Employee Int l Union) representing health care workers and paramedics across Ontario. Previously she was employed at Timken Canada LP for 25 years and was the United Steelworkers Local 4906 President. Kathy ran in the 2007 Provincial Election for the first time and has worked for NDP Candidates Provincially and Federally including Peggy Sattler Brad James Irene Mathyssen and Bryan Bakker. Pina is a trained lawyer having practised family criminal and real estate law for 15 years. She also served as a deputy judge in the Ontario Small Claims Court Division. Until her nomination as the PC Candidate Pina worked as the Special Advisor on Issues Management in the Office of the Mayor for the City of Toronto. Prior to the Mayor s Office Pina worked at Queen s Park in legislative affairs on the portfolio of Economic Development and Trade.
