During the first of those interviews a spring training sit-down with baseball legend George Brett of the Kansas City Royals in 1986 the year after his team had won the World Series the future Hall of Famer gave a college sophomore 40 minutes of his time. He even asked me which brand of hair mousse I used because he was so impressed with how my feathered bangs of that era barely budged in the wind. Thirty years later I can tell you that not all celebrity interviews go that well. Sometimes then-Florida Gators running back Emmitt Smith gets in your face because he doesn t like how the press is digging into potential NCAA rules violations by the football program. Or then-Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula yells at you during a press conference because you ask about one of his draft-pick busts. Sometimes while interviewing George H.W. Bush in the press box of a baseball stadium the Secret Service mistakes your tape recorder for an unidentified object and not-so-gently smacks your arm away from the former president s face. On the flip side celebrities can surprise you. Carol Burnett once regaled me with hilarious show-biz tales for more than an hour--all the while knowing that her daughter Carrie Hamilton was about to die in a few days from brain and lung cancer. After I shared a story with her that I went on one date with Hoda Kotb in the early 1990s never to hear from her again Kathie Lee Gifford turned to me and said Hoda ... that slut The truth is as a reporter you never know how an interview with someone accustomed to the spotlight will go. That may explain why writer Michelle Solomon called me immediately after her conversation with chef Bobby Flay. She couldn t have been more excited about the candor and enthusiasm the Food Network star brought to the table on the eve of his appearance as guest judge at the 2017 Downtown BBQ Throwdown at Mizner Park in Boca Raton--one of some 60 events that Lifestyle will proudly sponsor in 2017. This year it marks its 40th anniversary with an exhibit celebrating a period of friendship between the United States and Japan a significant time for innovation culture and the man for which the museum is named. Deco Japan focuses on Japan s history from the 1920s until about 1945 when the country looked to the Western world for inspiration to modernize. The exhibition the first outside Tokyo dedicated to Japanese art deco showcases a love of speed machinery and mechanism says Tamara Joy the museum s chief curator. It will be showcased at the Morikami its final venue after years of traveling from Feb. 24 to May 21. Industrialization is reflected in sleek lines and shiny surfaces. Scrolls and screen paintings were among traditional Japanese art forms reimagined with an avant-garde edge. The moga or modern girl represented the growing contemporary values as did caf s movies and jazz music. This marked an important era for Japanese colonists such as George Morikami who was welcomed into the United States in the early 20th century. FEBRUARY 2017 LMGFL.COM Morikami a young farmer immigrated to South Florida to revolutionize agriculture with the Yamato Colony. The community didn t thrive but he stayed and continued to grow crops even through World War II. Toward the end of his life he had accumulated 200 acres of land which he donated to the state of Florida. Of that about 17 acres was used for the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. He died in 1996 a year before its original building the Yamato-kan opened. The museum also is celebrating its achievements. The second building holds three exhibition galleries a 225-seat theater an authentic tea house a research library classrooms a cafe and lakeside terraces. The Morikami Collections include more than 7 000 Japanese art objects and artifacts. The Japanese gardens feature a world-class bonsai collection. The 40th anniversary celebration will continue in June with a new exhibit called Building a Legacy Gifts from the Mary Griggs Burke Collection and a day of activities and special pricings ( 40 will be a theme). At the end visitors will create a time capsule and share their favorite memories of the Morikami. 20 WHERE THE FITTEST SURVIVE IT S NO SURPRISE THE BEST IS EXPANDING. Laurie Davis All That Glitters BY ALYSSA FISHER PHOTO BY EDUARDO SCHNEIDER A NEW VINTAGE BOUTIQUE OFFERS DECADES OF GLAMOROUS ACCESSORIES I n the thick of the minimalist fashion movement glamour reclaims the spotlight at Lulu s Vintage the new Fort Lauderdale boutique carrying decades of designer jewelry and extravagant hats. We re not for the faint of heart says owner Laurie Davis as she repositions a pearl and citrine Iradj Moini necklace in its case. Isn t this fabulous The bureaus are open and lit revealing sparkling pieces from as early as the 1800s that she bought at private estates throughout the years. The contemporary pieces like the Iradj Moini in the window are one-of-kind. ( You re not going to go into Bloomingdale s or Neiman and find this she adds.) The hats and fasteners lining the wall spare no drama artfully incorporating jewel tones tulle feathers flowers and even animals-- bees seahorses and a little white bird are FEBRUARY 2017 LMGFL.COM among the surprising touches. A 1960s hand-beaded shift dress hangs on one of two racks of vintage designer party dresses and evening gowns. Before Lulu s opened at 3332 N.E. 33rd St. in December it was on Michigan Avenue in Chicago for almost 15 years. When I was a little girl I knew I would have a boutique I just didn t know what it would be Davis says. When the former stylist saw Julia Roberts accept her Academy Award in a vintage Valentino in 2001 it clicked. Her clients many of whom were society girls helped create an immediate buzz she says. For years women traveled from neighboring states for the perfect hat for the Kentucky Derby. Christina Hendricks stopped in to shop for her role as Joan on AMC s award-winning drama series Mad Men. The jewelry has also been worn on Fox s Empire. Almost two years ago Davis relocated to South Florida her home in the 80s. Her posh little shop minutes away from Lauderdale-By-The-Sea features a floor-toceiling mirror and a hat bar. Back in the day when you would buy a hat you were seated in front of a mirror and the hats would be put on you she says. Davis own style sophisticated-withan-edge is reflected in her merchandise ostentatious and daring yet elegant and timeless. Right now the one piece I m lusting after is this one from the 1930s extremely rare she says trying on a gold cuff encrusted with tropical-colored stones. I m out of my mind for it. 24 Ryan Lochte is one of the world s best swimmers. One mistake didn t change that. SECOND CHANCE If you are in over your head in credit card bills... At an age when he could be capitalizing on senior discounts Bernhard Langer is instead having his way with golf s senior circuit the PGA Tour Champions which the Boca Raton resident has ruled for much of the past decade. Last year at age 59 Langer captured four tournaments en route to winning the tour s prize money crown with 3 016 959. It marked the fifth consecutive season that the two-time Masters champion (1985 and 1993) topped the money list--a feat that not even Tiger pulled off during his prime on the PGA Tour. Along the way the native of Germany earned a combined 13 020 160 from 2012 through 2016 with 15 tournaments wins and 84 top-10 finishes. This month Langer not only returns to the site of one of his 29 Champions tour victories he gets to wake up each morning of the tournament in his own bed. The father of four with his wife of three decades Vikki will join a field of senior standouts at the Allianz Championship in Boca Raton (which Langer won in 2010). The World Golf Hall of Famer spoke with Lifestyle about his remarkable late-career success. You ve played some of the best golf on any tour over the past decade. Are you enjoying the sport more now than ever Certainly the last 10 years I ve played some very good and very consistent golf. I m blessed to have a job that I enjoy--and golf is a sport that s much more enjoyable when you play well than when you play like rubbish. Golfers on the senior circuit often have the most success in the years right after turning 50. At age 59 you led the tour in earnings by nearly 1.3 million. How is that possible I still believe to this day that I can improve my technique. If I can do that I m going to hit more fairways and more greens. (Note Langer has led the PGA Tour Champions in scoring average and greens in regulation percentage the past three consecutive years.) On top of that you mature as a player. You get wiser. You learn more about yourself the kind of shots you can and can t pull off on a regular basis. So the strategy should get better the swing should get more consistent. I ve been playing the game for 50 years now. There were a lot of years where I had to make changes. The past few years I ve settled down. There are certain tendencies I must pay attention to but I m not redefining my golf game. Do you ever catch grief from the other players for dominating the tour Oh yes. There s a lot of needling going on. You get comments like Why don t you take a few weeks off and give the rest of us a chance Stuff like that. It s all in good jest. As someone who thrived with the anchor putter how did you feel about the PGA Tour s ban of that putter last year I think everybody who anchored [the putter against the torso] was somewhat concerned especially when you used it for 17 years like I had. I put a lot of hours into perfecting the stroke. Then it was taken away. I spent weeks trying all sorts of techniques and finally decided to try the next best thing which was the unanchored [long putter]. Once I dedicated myself to it and practiced with it I got comfortable. If anchoring were that easy why wasn t everyone doing it There was never more than 10 to 15 percent of golfers using the anchored putting stroke. If it were that much of an advantage 90 percent would have gone to it. I think the whole thing was ridiculous to start with. It didn t serve a purpose. Along with the obvious what do you enjoy about playing the Allianz First off I don t have to get on an airplane or take a long car ride. Mostly I enjoy having family and friends around--people I go to church with friends I ve made over the years in Boca it s great to have them come out and cheer me on and enjoy the tournament. You were two shots off the lead last year heading into the final round of the Masters. What is it about that tournament that brings out the best in you It helps having played the course a couple of hundred times. I know where to go where not to go how certain putts will break. It helps to know that if the pin is here I can t miss the green there--because I ve been there three times and I could never get it up and down. Sometimes it just brings out the best in me knowing that I have to perform at my very highest level. I can t get away with a mediocre round of golf at Augusta National. If I do I ll shoot in the mid to high 70s because the course is so hard. Mostly I just love the challenge. It s a really long course for me now that it s been lengthened. I m hitting 4-irons and 5-irons into greens where my competitors are hitting 7-irons and 8-irons. Those greens were not designed to come in with long irons you have to stop the ball as quickly as possible and the targets are small. I m so excited I m so excited I m so scared a tormented Spano cries out. Funky Buddha Brewery s Russian imperial stout beer made with coffee and vanilla I m So Excited I m So Scared is a sly reference to the over-caffeinated Spano and the after-school sitcom. We come up with an idea for a beer then we search for a concept and a name after we decide on the ingredients says John Linn brand director at Funky Buddha (1201 N.E. 38th St. Oakland Park 954.440.0046 funkybuddhabrewery.com). The ingredients will define what we re trying to convey. Inspiration for titles also come from movies and music. Hop Gun India Pale Ale is a tip of the hat to Top Gun while Wide Awake It s Morning an imperial maple bacon coffee porter is taken from the album by indie rock band Bright Eyes I m Wide Awake It s Morning. Linn says Funky Buddha founder Ryan Sentz is the Willy Wonka of beer making concocting brews that are flavor memory driven such as the popular Butta Cup. Sweet chocolate and salty peanuts are joined with a double brown ale to evoke the flavor of Reese s Peanut Butter Cups in a beer. Beyond the brews that conjure childhood memories Funky Buddha produces its share of culinary inspired offerings. Breakfast in a Glass for example is a sticky-sweet double brown ale loaded with maple syrup and cinnamon. This month the brewery will introduce its new blonde ale made with fresh pineapple juice Pineapple Beach which will be in stores restaurants and bars across Florida. Nothing s sacred Linn says. I don t get deep into philosophy or spit a lot of Sanskrit at them says Weiner the executive director of Connection Coalition. I keep them safe. I keep it simple so that they can access their own stillness. The nonprofit Connection Coalition works with youth organizations to share practices such as yoga mindfulness and meditation to populations that don t have access to it. Instructors visit aftercare programs impoverished schools drug rehabilitation centers shelters foster homes and similar places around the country. Yoga takes us out of our story the Coral Springs resident says. It gives us the opportunity to access their active thinking while they re moving and discharging energy and that s where we plant the seeds of whatever they need in the moment those messages of self-respect selfcontrol and self-awareness. Weiner who also teaches at Yoga Cure in Coconut Creek never intended to become a yoga teacher. She left a corporate job in 2010 because she found it heartbreaking to create reports detailing staff reductions. While she was considering what to do next she learned the elementary school her twins attended had cut recess. She was so bothered she made a business plan a holistic five-activity package with nutrition and sports. She was missing a yoga teacher. Yoga had always been part of her life so she went for training. During training she heard about Coalition founder Terri Cooper. In 2012 Cooper brought her course to Delray Beach. I was two hours in and I was riveted Weiner says. She was passionate and knew she could help shape the organization moving it national--or even international. She sent emails for two weeks before being asked to join the inner circle. She stepped up as executive director in 2013. Since then the team has trained more than 1 700 volunteers around the country. Weiner teaches her volunteers to walk into their programs without intentions We teach them how to create connections how to show up with no blame no shame and no judgment. One week the kids may be receptive but the next they can be lethargic and don t want to stand. That s the joy of being a yoga teacher she says. We can recognize body language that somebody else may not. We recognize it as a symptom of trauma. I don t take it personally. I try to engage them. She understands them because she s been there. Weiner grew up angry feeling disempowered. There was physical and emotional abuse. She got into fights. She self-harmed. She used drugs. It wasn t until I learned yoga. Forget about the shapes we get into just the breath--how I can calm myself down she says. Every program is different but each time she incorporates a similar message. I talk a lot about choices their stories. I tell them what I needed to hear as a kid that I didn t get. They are not a poor choice they have unlimited potential. The celebrity chef has gained grill-master acclaim from starring in such shows as Grill It with Bobby Flay BBQ with Bobby Flay and Throwdown with Bobby Flay the latter of which has made the term throwdown synonymous with competitions. One such competition will bring Flay to Mizner Park Amphitheater in Boca Raton on Feb. 18 for the annual Downtown BBQ Throwdown. Flay will be the guest judge as contestants vie for the title of grand champion and a chance to compete in the 38th annual American Royal World Series of Barbecue held each October in Kansas City. (His February in Florida schedule also includes a stop at the Feb. 22-26 South Beach Wine & Food Festival which is sponsored by the Food Network and Cooking Channel.) While women enjoy the glory of outdoor cooking as much as men Flay says the stereotype has always been the guy with the grilling tool belt who burns the chicken and undercooks the steak. For some reason men feel like the grill is their domain. I say there are two kinds of guys in the world-- those who can grill and those who think they can grill. The native New Yorker says he follows the same fundamentals when judging a barbecue competition as when teaching people how to cook-- including chefs at his restaurants throughout the country. I m looking for flavor contrast in textures and as close to perfect execution as possible in how the food is cooked he says. All of those things are hard to do but grouped together it is really difficult. Whether it s grilling or creating a simple dinner Flay says the one thing that trips up cooks from amateurs to professionals is overcomplicating what has to be done instead of relying on the fundamentals. When it comes to a fundamental of grilling PHOTO COURTESY OF FOOD NETWORK The chef in action on Beat Bobby Flay Flay says to let the grill do its job. His go-to choices for grilling are any kind of beef steaks--rib-eye hanger and strip. These are the most mouth-watering he says. Whether you re using spice rubs or marinades it s simple to impart flavor and texture. In the Beginning Flay didn t start out dreaming about a career in the kitchen. Not that I m jaded but when you re in the business awards have a different meaning than when you re looking from the outside in at all the glamour says Brett Ratner the graduate of Miami Beach High School (class of 1986) who has become one of the most influential figures in the motion picture industry. The real joy I get is being on the set or being in pre- or post-production. The joy is in the process. That sentiment rings especially true when it comes to a Ratner project nearly a decade in the making--one that has a Hollywood back story and a prestigious award to its name even though it s not a movie. Last spring the director of Red Dragon X-Men The Last Stand and the Rush Hour series launched The Hilhaven Lodge a blend of bourbon rye and Tennessee whiskey inspired by and named after the legendary Beverly Hills estate Ratner calls home. The collaboration between Ratner and the spirits company Diageo generated immediate buzz in adult beverage circles winning the coveted double gold medal at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. That Ratner would add a spirit brand to an already overflowing r sum might seem out of step for someone whose global production and media company (he runs RatPac with billionaire partner James Packer) has co-financed more than 50 films since its debut in 2013--movies that have earned a combined 21 Academy Awards and generated more than 10 billion in worldwide box office. That is until you hear him talk about the process. the Hilhaven Lodge is named after your home in Beverly Hills. What was your input during the process This wasn t an overnight gig. I wanted to build something that could be here 100 years from now. When I first met with the team at Diageo I said that I wanted a brand named after the house and the tradition of entertaining here. This was nine years ago at the time the [spirits market] was all about vodka and tequila. There was no whiskey market. Brown liquid was dead. What part of your Miami upbringing stays with you either in the way you approach filmmaking or the projects that appeal to you Miami always has been a multicultural scene of cosmic proportion. Half of my family is Cuban so we had that cultural aspect along with the Jewish aspect. We had dinner together every night in a house with my mom her brother my grandparents and my great-grandmother a Holocaust survivor. We were always telling stories around the table storytelling was such a big part of my culture. I also grew up around some of the most interesting people in the world. Al Malnik who owned The Forge when I was a kid was like my father figure he raised me. His place was such an amazing cesspool of characters from politicians to Colombian drug lords to gangsters. I was always fascinated with food and beverage because of Al. That s why it s so cool to go to restaurants I used to frequent as a kid that now carry my spirit. LMGFL.COM FEBRUARY 2017 47 The Spa Rainforest at Eau Spa Indulge Yourself with treatments that raise the pampering bar BY ALYSSA FISHER 48 FEBRUARY 2017 LMGFL.COM One of the private Garden Villas at Eau Spa Drunk in Love Champagne and Caviar Couple s Journey Where Eau Spa Address 100 S. Ocean Blvd. Manalapan The experience The aptly named Caviar Couple s Journey is an indulgent five-hour itinerary designed for couples seeking uninterrupted relaxation. It s a luxury also to be enjoyed by singletons I can attest. The experience has much to do with its laid-back glamorous environment designed with an Ibiza oasis in mind. I was content lying on the chaise lounge before the hourlong Couple s Signature Massage sipping on fresh coconut water and looking upon the SelfCenter Garden. Women strolled through reaching for a cupcake or an apple or pouring themselves tea. In the couple s version I would be in a private villa customizing everything from the colors of the room to the style of music. There would be free-flowing Champagne and I would be dining on caviar on the lanai in the lush garden. Nevertheless I was tranquil in my oversized white robe when Sam my massage therapist beckoned. I was in for a standard full-body massage plus a warmstone back massage and pampering foot treatment. I swallowed a spoonful of local honey to awaken my senses before opting for firm pressure to soothe the tension in my back the Pause fragrance (out of Pause Play and Perfect) for relaxation-focused aromatherapy and a mixture of soft and upbeat melodies. I was in a trance feeling light on my feet as Sam escorted me back to the lounge where I had free run of the facility for the remainder of the afternoon. The true Drunk in Love experience would have been followed by a 60-minute facial and private 60-minute pedicure and 30-minute manicure. Once returning to the villa couples can enjoy an outdoor or indoor hand-drawn bath. This all-encompassing journey doesn t come cheap at 1 350 but sometimes we owe it to ourselves to live a little. LMGFL.COM FEBRUARY 2017 49 Healing Massage with Himalayan Salt Stones Where Acqualina Spa by ESPA Address 17875 Collins Ave. Sunny Isles Beach The experience Salt continues to have its moment on the wellness scene with halotherapy rooms promising inhalation benefits that range from stress and respiratory relief to boosts for the immune and lymphatic systems. Acqualina makes its own detoxifying statement with a backlit Himalayan Salt Wall in its Relaxation Lounges--but that s not the only way that salt enhances a serving at the first ESPA-branded spa in the United States. The new Healing treatment culminates in a full-body massage that incorporates aromatherapy oils and heated Himalayan salt stones. In addition to their anti-inflammatory benefits the 84 trace minerals that comprise the salt stones are said to balance the body s electromagnetic field and central nervous systems while tapping into the ancient wisdom hidden within. Amenities include everything from a Finnish sauna and crystalized steam room to an outdoor spa pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. COURSES DESIGNED BY THREE OF THE SPORT S GREATEST LEGENDS MAKE REUNION RESORT A TRUE GOLFING PARADISE BY KEVIN KAMINSKI Tee It Up T 52 om Watson doesn t have the golfing r sum of Jack Nicklaus (eight professional major victories to the Golden Bear s 18) or a devoted army like the one that followed Arnold Palmer throughout his career but as I m standing over a tap-in birdie putt on an overcast afternoon at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee my judgment is final. I ll take Watson over Nicklaus and Palmer any day of the week. That s only because I m taming the course that the five-time British Open champion designed at Reunion. OK taming may be a strong word given that I m a 20-handicap. Still the 7 154-yard tract (from the back tees)--with its forgiving fairways and sprawling greens--seems to fit my game more comfortably than my premium all-weather golf glove. I ve managed to escape the dastardly bunkering that comes into play on nearly every shot to card a back-nine 39 (3 over par) complete with a near hole-in-one on the par-3 12th after my soaring 7-iron landed less than a foot from a frontside sand trap kicked right and trickled to within 8 inches of the cup. Conversely the other two courses at Reunion produced far less drama when it came to my game--and FEBRUARY 2017 LMGFL.COM considerably more strokes. But therein lies the beauty of the only destination on the planet to feature layouts designed by Nicklaus Palmer and Watson who account for 33 combined major golf titles. Each course at Reunion is a sight to behold exquisitely manicured and filled with aesthetic details meant to draw the eye and if you re not careful ensnarl your golf ball. Each also possesses its own identity and unique challenges. The Nicklaus the longest of the three at 7 244 yards is a mind-bender designed to force players into thinking about each hole like a chess master. Do I follow the path of least resistance and take what the course gives Or do I attempt a risk reward shot over water or into a postage stamp-sized green that might blow up my scorecard The Palmer much like the late legend who designed it dares your inner swashbuckler to go for broke with holes like the tantalizingly short par-4 seventh protected on three sides by water. It s a tee shot that screams for golfers to break out the big stick and try to reach the green in one. While golf deservedly commands the big letters on the Reunion marquee it s hardly the only draw at a property less than 10 miles from Walt Disney World that encompasses some 2 300 acres. Part of what distinguishes Reunion from the other golf destinations under the Salamander Hotels & Resorts banner (Innisbrook near Tampa Hammock Beach in Palm Coast) is the array of accommodations--luxury hotel rooms at the 11-story Reunion Grande spacious condo- style villas with multiple bedrooms and full kitchens and jaw-dropping vacation home rentals of all sizes. Families have access to nearly a dozen pools throughout the resort including a 5-acre water park that boasts a lazy river a giant flume slide and a beach volleyball court. The property also features six clay tennis courts jogging and biking trails a fitness center sed only The view is surpas and a boutique d at Eleven. by the foo spa. Dining at Reunion starts with Eleven the e contemporary steak house on the top floor of Reunion Grande that rivals any sophisticated South Florida restaurant with its tight menu of classic starters (pans f seared crab cake barbecued bacon shrimp) prime cuts (peppercorn New York strip 20-ounce porterhouse) and decadent desserts (white chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake). The property also hosts an Italian bistro (Forte) a restaurant inside the golf clubhouse and casual spots at the water park and the pool at Seven Eagles overlooking the Palmer course. If you time your after-dinner cocktail just right on the poolside balcony at Eleven you can catch Disney s nightly fireworks display in the distance. For those interested in a getaway that doesn t include amusement park lines--but does include challenging world-class golf courtesy of three of the sport s greatest legends--it s the perfect place to watch the show. Oh my god we ve had so many proposals at the restaurant says Elia of his flagship establishment (1201 N. Federal Highway 954.564.1234) one of a half-dozen South Florida concepts under the Angelo Elia banner. They call me at the restaurant Please Angelo I want to get married. Can you hide the ring for us ... [Recently] we hid a beautiful ring inside a chocolate cake for a good friend of mine. It was a 40 000 ring So we made sure to wrap it in paper so it didn t get dirty. She couldn t believe it. We have couples that come back year after year on their anniversary. It makes us feel very special. The feeling is mutual for patrons of Casa D Angelo which is approaching a 20-year milestone in Broward County. Part of the reason is that Elia and his dedicated culinary team give the people what they want. Look no further than the squid-ink linguine seafood entr e which finds its way onto the list of specials as many as five nights a week because of its popularity. The dish calls for house-made linguine clams and mussels (which are saut ed before the other seafood so they open) tiger prawns and a South African lobster tail (which are added separately) and a light cherry tomato sauce with garlic olive oil and crushed red pepper. [Editor s note For the purposes of our photo the tomato sauce was placed in a separate container instead of poured over the pasta and seafood.] This particular pasta dish looks heavier but it s not says Elia 53. How sweet it is I use only Poma Rosa baby cherry tomatoes from San Marzano country in Italy close to Naples. This is where all the best tomatoes come from. I try to teach my guests that real Italian pasta from rigatoni to ink linguine takes about 2 minutes to boil. If pasta is overcooked it s like mush. You want to feel every 4. Black as ink We could use a white linguine or a spaghetti but it s not the same. I want this linguine it becomes all about seafood. Platelet-Rich plasma promotes the regeneration of new healthy tissue. Regenerative medicine includes the use of stem cells and or Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy to treat patients of all ages and activity levels without surgery. Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) uses a concentrated and purified portion of your own blood which contains a higher concentration of platelets and growth factors delivered specifically to the source of pain or injury. Platelets are created by bone marrow and found in the bloodstream. These respond to injury and facilitate the healing process. Increased levels of growth factors have the potential to improve signaling and recruitment of cells. At Orthopedix MD Dr. Gayan Poovendran offers PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy for our patients. The body s first response to any soft tissue injury (ligaments and tendons) is to deliver platelet cells. Filled with healing and growth factors platelets are essential to the repair process. Platelets in combination with your growth factors stimulate the recruitment of stem cells to the area . PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)therapy s natural healing process accelerates the body s efforts by delivering a higher concentration of platelets through a simple injection. It provides effective pain relief and faster healing and it can eliminate the need for surgery and prolonged recovery. It can also speed up recovery and improve healing following certain surgeries. 4701 North Federal Highway Suite A39 Fort Lauderdale FL 33308 954.771.8177 2964 North State Road 7 Suite 205 Margate FL 33063 954.580.4080 The Benefits PRP Therapy aids in the healing process and helps decrease pain and increase function.
